Behavioral Challenges
Residents may exhibit behaviors that require structured supervision and behavioral intervention, including:
- Aggression toward peers or staff
- Assaultive behaviors
- Physical altercations
- Property destruction
- Throwing objects
- Verbal aggression or threats
- Defiance and non-compliance
- Difficulty following directions
- Problems with authority figures
- Elopement or running away
- Tantrums or emotional dysregulation
- Impulsivity
- Boundary violations
Self-Injurious or High-Risk Behaviors
Some residents may demonstrate behaviors requiring increased supervision and safety planning, including:
- Self-injurious behaviors
- Head banging
- Skin picking or scratching
- Suicidal ideation
- Suicide attempts
- Homicidal ideation
- Severe emotional distress
- Risk-taking behaviors
Aggressive or Disruptive Behaviors
Examples include:
- Hitting
- Kicking
- Biting
- Spitting
- Scratching others
- Pushing or shoving
- Threatening others
- Intimidation
- Destruction of personal or facility property
Safety and Risk Behaviors
- Fire play or fascination with fire
- Vandalism
- Stealing or theft
- Hoarding behaviors
- Inappropriate use of objects as weapons
- Unsafe decision-making
Social and Environmental Challenges
- Gang-related associations
- Peer conflict or bullying
- Difficulty forming healthy relationships
- Social withdrawal or isolation
- Poor coping skills
- Poor emotional regulation
Behavioral and Authority Challenges
- Defiance toward staff or authority figures
- Refusal to follow rules or routines
- Testing boundaries
- Manipulative behaviors
- Argumentative interactions
Communication and Emotional Regulation Challenges
- Difficulty expressing emotions appropriately
- Limited communication skills
- Emotional outbursts
- Low frustration tolerance
- Difficulty resolving conflict
NOTE: Our staff is continuously trained to implement evidence-based interventions, de-escalation strategies, and individualized care plans to ensure safety, stability, and positive outcomes for all residents. Care is provided in a manner that emphasizes structure, supervision, consistency, and daily support, consistent with the scope of services permitted for Small Family Homes.
Everything Else
Placement decisions are made exclusively by the referring placing agency or county department and are based on licensing capacity, compatibility, and the individual needs of the child.
Submission of an inquiry or referral does not guarantee placement.
Scope of Care Clarification
Our Small Family Home does not provide:
- Clinical or therapeutic treatment
- Mental health counseling or psychotherapy
- Medical services beyond authorized medication assistance
- Specialized or intensive treatment services
Any therapeutic, educational, or medical services are arranged through external licensed professionals as determined by the placing agency.
Regulatory Statement
All placements and services are provided in compliance with California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division regulations under Title 22.
